The Murder of Bobby Kent
Bobby Kent was 19-years-old when he was lured out to the marshes in South Florida with the promise of alcohol and sex, and brutally murdered by his ‘friends’, including his best friend, 19-year-old Martin Puccio. Puccio and Kent had been best friends since they were kids, they lived on the same block and would hang out each day. Puccio had a secret hatred towards Kent as Kent would often belittle him, beat him up and make fun of him. Before the murder of Kent, Puccio began dating 18-year-old Lisa Connelly, Connelly was annoyed at how much time Puccio would spend with Kent so she decided to set Kent up with her best friend 17-year-old Ali Willis. The relationship turned sour as Kent began to rape and abuse Willis who put an end to the relationship and Puccio was back to spending all his time with Kent. Puccio confided in Connelly that Kent was also abusive to him and Connelly came up with an idea of how to get rid of Kent, they would murder him.
At around 11.30 p.m. on the 14th of July Connelly and Willis went to Puccio’s home, Willis brought her new boyfriend 17-year-old Donny Semenec and her other friend 18-year-old Heather Swallers. Connelly’s cousin Derek Dzvirko and teenage ‘hit man’ Derek Kaufman also came around. They were ready to murder Kent, they brought along a lead pipe, two knives and a baseball bat and lured Kent up to the marshes. Willis took Kent to the edge of the water to distract him, it was here that Semenec ran up behind Kent and stabbed him in the neck, Kent called out to Puccio for help, but instead Puccio stabbed him in the stomach. Kent attempted to escape but was chased by Puccio and Semenec who stabbed him multilple times, when he was finally on the ground Puccio slit his throat which surprisingly didn’t kill him. Kaufman delivered the final blow, a baseball bat to the skull. They then dumped him in the water, hoping that the crocodiles would eat him. They did not. Martin Puccio was sentenced to life in prison.Donny Semenec was sentenced to life in prison. Derek Kaufman was sentenced to life plus 30 years. Lisa was sentenced to 22 years, she was released in 2004. Alice Willis was sentenced to 17 years in prison, she was released in 2001.Derek Dzvirko served 6 years in state prison.
